Tawny Caribbean Raspberry Crazy Ants Continue to Invade Bradenton and Sarasota Florida

Check out the following video I shot at a family park in Bradenton Florida:

These ants are the newest invasive species terrorizing the Sarasota and Bradenton area of the west coast of Florida. As seen in the video, this is a huge area completely infested with one colony working together. The entire lake is surrounded by trailing ants traveling back and forth into the woods with water and food. After seeing them in action you would think they are a plague from God! These ants trail in massive numbers and their colonies frequently exceed several thousand workers. When we first started experiencing these ants in the local area, we tried every product we had available with little on-going success. Only after a year of studying different application methods and product combinations did we find a strategy to keep them at bay. The bad news is that because of the volume of foraging ants that invade, they will be back without regular treatments. Having been spotted by Tom Raspeberry in Texas about ten years ago, they have spread quickly to the entire gulf coast area including locally from Englewood and Port Charlotte all the way to the tip of Parrish and Bradenton. With these ants taking root, it will be very hard to keep them under control without state intervention in the coming years.
